Personal Screenings: Liza Minnelli (2010) *** (out of 4)Turner Classic Films host and historian Robert Osborne sits down with Liza Minnelli to discuss her career and of course her popular parents. Running just under 45-minutes I think a lot of folks are going to walk away from this interview rather disappointed. What we receive is cute nice but at the same time you can't support but feel somewhat disappointed that there isn't more discussed. It's cute clear that Minnelli is a lot more familiar with her father Vincente so a lot of the talk is about his movies as well as few personal stories that Liza had about him. There's some talk about Judy Garland but not nearly as much. Osborne mentions that he never knew the Liza that gets talked about in gossip columns so he wanted this interview so that folks should see the person he knows. That's a great thought but I wonder why so much items goes unanswered or simply doesn't receive asked. We learn that she grew up in a neighborhood that also had Bogart and Lana Turner yet she's never asked about them. I'm sure she knew the likes of Mickey Rooney or different another folks in her parents lives but we never hear anything. In terms of her own career we hear about the Oscar victory but very tiny else and there's not even any mention of her working with Martin Scorsese. We do receive Minnelli discussing her favorites works of her parents and she has some great behind the scenes items including her first screen role in IN THE GOOD OLD SUMMERTIME and a certain trouble with her panties.
