Where the Pavement Ends 2019
Description: The death of Michael Brown, shot by a Ferguson, Missouri police officer in 2014, was national news after protests erupted there. But the history of Ferguson, a formerly whites-only "sundown town,” and the neighboring black city of Kinloch, actually semi-abandoned, is not well known. Incorporating reflections of residents of Kinloch and Ferguson (including Gillooly, who grew up in Ferguson), this movie explores the relationship between these two towns. Beginning with a 1960s roadblock that divided then-white Ferguson from black Kinloch, the movie depicts a micro-history of race relations in America.

Description: Adapting its game and theme from Thomas De Quincey's murder text, this long-overdue return to narrative cinema by the nice British filmmaker Peter Whitehead is based around a mesmerizing psycho-geographical exploration of modern day Vienna. The movie incorporates a record of the subversive underbelly of the town into a poetic meditation on conspiracy theory, ecoterrorism, time and cinema, retracing the storyline of The Third Man. Adapted from a trilogy of Whitehead's own Nohzone novels, the objective and subjective becomes blurred as the movie director merges with the fictional detective in a adventure into the murky activities of covert counter-insurgency groups. Kaleidoscopic in intent, the movie mixes Noh theatre, Victorian novels, Vienna after the war, opium, domain names and Jacob's ladder "pitched twixt Heaven and Charring Cross".
