For the next two decades, Mallinckrodt continued its classified work for the Atomic Energy Commission during the Cold War. The resulting radioactive waste contaminated numerous territories in the St. Louis zone some of which have not been cleaned up 70 years after the end of Globe Fight II. Said through the eyes of an overexposed worker, the storyline expands through a series of interviews that careen down a toxic pathway leading to a fiery terminus at a smoldering, radioactively-contaminated landfill. The First Secret Town reveals a forgotten history and its continuing impact on the community in the 21st Century, uncovering past wrongdoing and documenting the renewed struggles to confront the issue.

This early 1980’s documentary details Garner talking about his life and influences, and comes loaded with narrated excerpts from his ebooks and eerie musical interludes and recorded screams that are curiously reminiscent of The League Of Gentlemen. Another scenes of Garner wandering around his key websites of inspiration – mainly around Alderley Edge in Cheshire – look like they’re from the early days of pop videos, with shaky hand-held footage and sudden zooms into blacked-out windows and strange rock formations. Somehow it all adds to the sincere intention of introducing Garner’s unusual body of work to the unsuspecting viewer.
