Chip of the Flying U #

Description: Chip of the Flying U was Johnny Mack Brown's first western entry for 1940. Brown essays the game role of Chip Bennett, foreman of the Flying U ranch. Before the second reel has tumbled over the spools, Chip finds himself falsely accused of robbery and murder. The current miscreants are in the employ of a band of foreign gunrunners, who speak in heavily Teutonic accents. Rest assured that Chip makes short work of these bush-league Storm Troopers before the sun sets in the West. Musical interludes are provided by a group calling themselves the Texas Rangers, even though they now hailed from Kansas City.

Ruin is OK and the Range Busters know Bolton is the head of the gang but that he gets his orders from someone else and that is the boy they want.

Young geologist David Brooks (who sells windmills) happens along and persuades the women to refuse Worth's offer to purchase the ranch. Worth has Vi kidnaped, and he gets the upper hand when Brooks rescues her. The geologist turns the tables, however, and Worth does not live to see either Brooks's windmill strike oil or happiness come to Brooks and Patricia.

Vigilantes of Boomtown #

Description: The ranch of Red Ryder (Allan Lane) and his aunt, The Duchess (Martha Wentworth), is being used as the training website for "Gentleman Jim" Corbett (George Turner) for his upcoming war in Carson City, Nevada for the heavyweight championship vs Bob Fitzsimmons (John Dehner). Molly McVey (Peggy Stewart), the daughter of a U.S. Senator, crusading vs prize-fighting in Nevada, complicates matters soemwhat when she conceives the bright concept of having Corbett kidnapped, thus causing the cancellation of the fight. The two boys (George Chesebro and George Lloyd) she hires to do the kidnapping also add to the complications by kidnapping Ryder instead of Corbett. Meanwhile, a gang of crooks, led by McKean (Roy Barcroft), descend on the city intent on looting the city and also making off with the war proceeds.
