Description: "One of Kuchar’s several feature-length works is this ribald pastiche to postwar Hollywood melodrama, that period when the studios were trying very difficult to be adult. The intricate, overheated plot involves a nurse trapped in an unhappy marriage who escapes the large town in find of greener pastures in Blessed Prairie, Oklahoma. Swerving from earnest homage to dark satire, Kuchar simultaneously imitates and savages the legacy of Sirk, Preminger and Minnelli that inspired him, gleefully intertwining the suggestive and the scatological, while also pointing towards the soon postmodern parodies of Cindy Sherman. The Devil’s Cleavage is also a rich time capsule of 1970s San Francisco, replete with cameos from Curt McDowell and Art Spiegelman." —hcl.harvard.edu

Laidback sailor Gabe returns to his sister and girlfriend in San Francisco following a stint in the Navy. However, things turn sour after Gabe discovers that he's being stalked by a mysterious psycho who seems intent on killing him.Director Jim Turner keeps the engrossing storyline moving along at a fast pace and makes neat test of different seedy Frisco road locations. The sex scenes are quite graphic and steamy, with a scorching girl/girl make-out session and a tasty sequence with two white guys mark teaming a buxom black girl rating as the definite arousing highlights. The gals are pretty and enticing in a cute accessible lady at the bus stop sort of way. The often amateurish acting possesses a certain endearingly clumsy charm. The groovy theme song and harmonic instrumental melody do the tuneful trick. Keith Webb's rough washed-out cinematography provides a suitably scroungy look. The wacko's real identity is a total hoot. An entertaining slice of vintage 70's sin cinema fare.
Unholy Kid (1972) * 1/2 (out of 4) This low-grade porno isn't going to have too many fanatics but if you play these 70's cheapos then there might be enough weirdness here for you to check the movie out. A Navy boy is out having a nice time when he notices that someone is following him. It later turns out that the boy has a stalker but who is it? In between the "thriller" aspects of the movie there are few sex scenes, which is obviously expected since this is a porno after all. For the most part this here is about as cheap as you can receive as everything from the melody to the acting to the staging of the sex scenes is rather generic. There's obviously nothing ground-breaking here and none of the sex scenes are all that great. As far as the storyline goes, well, there's really not too much to it. It's simple to guess who's doing the stalking and it leads to a rather funny ending.
Not entirely successful, THE UNHOLY CHILD is nevertheless laudable for its ambition, attempting a strange compromise between sex movie and thriller.Story starts with a sailor returning home from the navy, walking in just after a lesbian tryst between his sister and one of his female friends. Back in the Tenderloin after a long tour at sea, he quickly seeks out an old mate working as a barman at a local restaurant. Unbeknownst to our hero, a mysterious boy in a coat and hat has begun following him.Joining his mate for a night out at a strip club, the two exit just in time to see their vehicle explode, executed in unconvincing miniature. Oddly unperturbed, they head home for a three-way with a stripper. At last spotting the shadowy stranger lurking outside, our character sets about tracking him down, leading to a predictable (it's a tiny cast) and underwhelming denouement.(SPOILERS)No prize for guessing the culprit is the sister, particularly given the noticeably slight frame and ludicrous pasted-on mustache – dead giveaways for a woman-to-man drag performance. Still, accolades would definitely be due to anyone capable of explaining her motivations, as the movie seems fully content to avoid disclosing them. While I have to give CHILD credit for attempting a fairly complex mystery plot, like many explicit films, it loses far too much time in the set-up and leaves nothing for the resolution, leading the ending to feel both rushed and confusing. It's a shame, since the movie is competently (if very cheaply) produced, and given a tiny more time and resources, director Jim Turner should really have had something on his hands. Considering the film's wall-to-wall pseudonymous credits, one can't support but wonder if perhaps he did elsewhere, under other name and outside "The Industry."
