Description: A video for electric traction fans. Not entirely, for steam was seen occasionally on the route especially west of Dinting, But this is the storyline of ·the 1500v dc system across the Pennines from Sheffield to Manchester. Filmed mainly in the 1960’s, you will see the EM1’s and EM2’s as they were in their green livery as much as they were in blue towards the end. Passenger services are there throughout the route. Class 506 troops are seen on the Glossop service and there is coverage of the EM2 class in Holland. All said a cute comprehensive movie of this period of electrification on an ex-LNER line. One day it may reopen again although not at 1500v dc!

Description: A video featuring the line between MANCHESTER and CREWE. Particular emphasis is on the two places, one a town and the another a railway town. Filmed in the 1960s, steam traction predominates. MANCHESTER VICTORIA and the nearby MANCHESTER EXCHANGE stations were busy with passenger, freight and parcels traffic. It was at the foot of MILES PLATTING incline where banking often took place. At the summit was NEWTON HEATH shed and a visit is made there. The line from MANCHESTER PICCADILLY was electrified from 1960 but steam power existed here alongside the fresh AC electric locomotives. At the northern end, STOCKPORT kept steam until 1968 and as well as the station, EDGELEY shed is visited. We then travel southwards through CHEADLE HULME, WILMSLOW, GOSTREY and on to CREWE where a wide range of motive power is seen from 1962 to 1968; Princess Coronations, Jubilees, Royal Scots, Crabs and Jinties along with BR Standards, Stanier Black 5s and Stanier 8Fs.

The Target Shoots First Reviews:

Edited from more than 200 hours of footage, "The Goal Shoots First" is a young production manager's chronicle of his two-year stint at Columbia House. Its technical merits and fabulous sense of humor earned it both the critics prize and the audience prize at the newest South by Southwest Movie Festival in Austin. The audience at the Aurora Picture Present in Houston (where I saw it tonight) was equally enthusiastic. The storyline starts in 1992, when Columbia House hires newest college graduate Christopher Wilcha as a marketing assistant. He brings his Hi8 to work each day to distance himself from the reality of the job, which turns out to be boring and hilariously out of touch with the famous melody scene. As his amount of responsibility increases, he supports design a new, more clever catalogue for the burgeoning alternative rock subculture. Readers love the fresh catalogue, and their letters of praise are encouraging for a while, but Chris's subversive attempts fail when the company manipulates them to suit its agenda. One of the pleasant surprises of Chris's approach is that while he's clearly disgusted with the corporate process at Columbia House, he retains a compassionate attitude toward his coworkers. The emergent tone is one of contemplative frustration with how the company siphons the individual constructive energy of its employees to further its own, less admirable goals. Interesting note: I used to receive the alternative catalogue in the mail, and I never expected to meet the guy responsible for it (six years later, in Houston).

Documentaries do not usually draw large crowds. But when I saw the movie at the Rotterdam Filmfestival it was a full house. And justly so!A very interesting - almost shocking - and hilariously funny insight into US email order CD shops. Shocking because you receive to learn about corporate intruige. Shocking because the head of marketing does not even know what she is selling.Remember Columbia/Warner is the largest reseller in the US! And frightening because these corporations are quick taking over Europe. And amidst all this, one lone fighter for the independent spirit wars himself out of the corporate noose to create this absolutely delicious documentary.Never condescending towards his colleagues. With tongue in cheek and without surplus commentary (remember you are almost watching a home movie) the movie maker won my respect and my heart. The posing for a 'picture with the rich and popular David Haselhoff' had me and my mates in stitches. I wonder where Chris Rocha go next?

Chris Wilcha has made a tiny home film with, it seems, deceit and bitterness as his guides. He paints a bunch of specialists who are minding their own business, trying to receive their jobs done the greatest they can, as a bunch of morons. The unintended effect is the depiction of Wilcha's insecurities, jealousy, and general sour grapes. What he doesn't understand is that not everyone in the corporate globe is a sell-out, and not everyone who can't create a living is a noble artist. Is it really possible that besides Wilcha's boss Rick Hunt (the only nice guy in the entire movie), no one at the company has both a brain AND a heart? Columbia House allowed Wilcha to aim his camera at the company each day, so it seems to me that they had nothing to hide. Wilcha obviously does, but wasn't successful.
