Description: Ben, the butcher, is in love with a woman who does not reciprocate his affections. He falls asleep and has a dream in which he threatens to foreclose the mortgage on the home of the woman he loves. He also makes a regular crook of the girl's brother by having his secure robbed and the cash placed in the brother's pocket. Ben is aroused from his dream by his partner, who is beating him over the head with a slab of meat.

The village belle in boy's clothing sits near the ring, to urge her sturdy winner on. Round one. Saved by the bell. Round two. The blacksmith knocks out everybody, including the referee. Hardheart gets the cash and the smith gets the girl.
Description: Sir Duncan Craggs retires from the Colonial Service and returns to London with his fresh French wife. The couple are devoted to every other, but continually flirt with another people. Sir Duncan is appointed to the board of clothing retail chain. On his tour of inspection, he encounters a successful shop run by the efficient Mr. Bullock. By contrast, a neighbouring store is filled with unhelpful staff overseen by an incompetent and lazy manager, Raymond Penny, who is more interested in horseracing than running his shop. Craggs is unimpressed by Penny and summons him to a meeting in London. Both Bullock and his domineering wife travel up to London as well, fearing that Penny will say Craggs malicious stories about them.

Description: Jerry from the top of a tree is making love to his woman at the window opposite. A policeman interferes and is place to sleep when Jerry falls on him. Jerry appropriates his clothes and enters his girl's home, arrests her father, who has been peppering him with a gun, and has him sent to the police station. They take Jerry and the woman to a cabin where a war ensues as to who shall have possession of the girl. It is finally decided that the bandits shall draw cards. Jerry objects and is locked in the attic. He escapes by climbing down the wall. Entering the cabin, he crawls along the floor, frisks the bandits' guns from their holsters and makes the bandits back vs the door. Meanwhile the policeman has recovered consciousness and with his brother officers begins on Jerry's trail. They arrive at the cabin as Jerry is about to flee.

The topic, as well as the main character, is inspired by his aunt who used to work in the industry. In order to search the star of the film, he invites three esteemed actresses to his apartment for an informal reading rehearsal. However, as later as they realise they are competing vs every another for the lead role, things take an unexpected turn.

Atti's brains should save the day but they should also spell disaster for Orla as the two fresh mates search themselves lined up on opposite sides of the battlefield.

The effects satisfy their childish curiosity, but perhaps there is something more promising waiting for them when one sleeps over later....Tasteful and up-beat, First Base is appropriate viewing for all ages.

If you read my review of this one from August of 99, then you have my opinion after watching only once and being disappointed by its comparisons to Dazed & Confused. The fact is-- after I rented it, I thought of this film often. I thought of some of the funny lines, but mainly it was thought provoking in a sense; as though it worked on a deeper lvl than it was meant to deliver on. The characters were somehow very believable and the situations, though far fetched in a film way, really reminded me of being there years ago. For example, while Joe's ramblings are misguided and nonsensical, it was evident that he had higher aspirations. His dialogue was like how a child like that might talk in true life-- not like someone reading from a script might. Hubbs and Tack were classic film characters, as well.Unable to receive the movie out of my head, I decided I had to own it. I ordered a copy and watch it about once a month or so, howling with laughter every time. My mission is that my initial impression was not nearly as favorable as it is now, partly based on certain expectations. If you realize from the outset that you're watching a B-movie and just play it for what it is, you may search the hidden gem that I found.
It's sad that many folks who commented on this gem, either didn't receive it, nitpick over it's faults (yes they are there but all films have them), or wish to compare it to Dazed and Confused. They are two various films altogether. For one the children in Dazed and Confused were essentially the 10% - rich, athletic, and famous children in school partying it up. Then of course there was the rest of us.If you were an average teen in the late 70's or early 80's, driving, drinking, and smoking whatever you should afford then you got this film for sure. Smoking skank weed out of a crushed Shlitz Malt Liquor tall can - been there, did it. Driving a car that was a barely moving invitation for the cops to bust you (try a brush painted green Chevy Luv pickup for nasty)- did that too. Getting wasted and ruining the rich kid/jock kegger with your mates - did that more times than I can count.I especially liked how the writer/director portrayed Joe and Hubbs - for once long haired, difficult rock listening, beer swilling, stoners weren't turned into violent sociopaths. There was no nannying Lifetime style message about drug and alcohol use. These were nice kids, who while on the wild side, would more than likely grow up to be cute responsible adults - like most of us did.It's sad there was never a follow up to this one. I liked the characters enough that seeing them in soon years (can you picture both Joe and Hubbs being the father character, dealing with the hip hop listening punks of today - I could)would surely be worth seeing.This a great, nearly forgotten gem that deserves the 10 I gave it. To really appreciate how funny this film really is, you may need to watch it twice. The first time I watched it, I thought it was so stupid and then my mate forced me into watching it a second time and I couldn't stop laughing. Items you might miss the first time-the multiple camera shots of the Blue Torpedo during the opening credits, the classic expression on Hubbs face when Joe plays "Dont Fear The Reaper", Officer Dean, and Tack's classic lines- "Get you some!" and "hey, babe, receive naked or shut up!" The list can simply go on for ever. To place it simply, this film is a classic comedy (and an EXTREMELY accurate portrayal of teenage suburban life) if you watch it a second time and appreciate the tiny funny details.
