While 20th Century-Fox's Les Miserables, starring Michael Rennie as beleagured ex-convict Jean Valjean, was making the rounds, a second version, lensed in Italy, was also showing up in chosen theatres. Running a quick 112 mins (hardly enough time to do full justice to the novel), U.S. release of the Italian adaptation starred Gino Servi as Valjean, whose "new" life as a boy of position and respect is forever threatened by dogged detective Javert. Valentine Cortese costars as Cosette, Valjean's adopted daughter. His hopes lead him to the castle of a wealthy inventor, Alexander Plant. Description: Schtonk! is a farce of the current happenings of 1983, when Germany's Stern magazine published, with nice fanfare, 60 volumes of the alleged diaries of Adolf Hitler – which two weeks soon turned out to be entirely fake. Fritz Knobel (based on real-life forger Konrad Kujau) helps himself by faking and selling Nazi memorabilia. When Knobel writes and sells a volume of Hitler's (nonexistent) diaries, he thinks it's just other job. When sleazy journalist Hermann Willié learns of the diaries, however, he quickly realizes their potential value... and Knobel is quickly in over his head. As the pressure builds and Knobel is forced to deliver more and more volumes of the fake diaries, he finds himself acting increasingly like the boy whose life he is rewriting. The movie is a romping and hilarious satire, poking fun not only at the happenings and characters involved in the hoax (who are only thinly disguised in the film), but at the discomfort Germany has with its hard past.

Description: Directed by Roberto Rossellini (his final film). Rossellini takes numerous liberties with the original source material, rearranging and omitting happenings at will, presenting everything in a low-key, highly undramatic fashion. Description: In 1972, a seemingly typical shoestring budget pornographic movie was made in a Florida hotel, "Deep Throat," starring Linda Lovelace. This movie would surpass the wildest expectation of everyone involved to become one of the most successful independent movies of all time. It caught the public imagination which met the spirit of the times, even as the self appointed guardians of public morality struggled to suppress it, and created, for a brief moment, a possible future where sexuality in movie had a bold artistic potential. This movie covers the storyline of the making of this controversial film, its stunning success, its hysterical opposition along with its dark side of mob influence and allegations of the on set mistreatment of the film's star.
