This is a documentary about the US Marine Corps. It's unusual in that there isn't a need for narration--a tons of people (almost all Marines) say the storyline themselves as you see stock footage or modern movie of troops going through primary training and officer's candidate school. It's all quite engaging and it's great to be able to have this behind the scenes look at this branch of the armed forces. One thing about the movie surprised me a bit. While the history of the Marines was mentioned and alluded to, this really is not a movie that gives any sort of in-depth discussion of this. There is a bit of notification about WWII but really not much before. And, not surprisingly, there's a lot about the Marines today. This movie is far less history and far more about the Marine spirit and pride--the forces that drive them to succeed and be the toughest of the tough. In addition, mistakes or criticism really aren't dealt with--it's more like an inspirational recruitment and public service sort of film.
