Description: Just a couple of months before his death, in August 1963, he made one last film: a 25-minute short entitled Jean Cocteau s’adresse à l’an 2000 (Cocteau addresses the year 2000). The movie comprises one still and highly sober shot of Cocteau facing the camera head-on to address the youth of the future. Once recorded, this spoken message for the 21st century was wrapped up, sealed and posted on the understanding that it would be opened only in the year 2000 (as it turned out, it was discovered and exhumed a several years shy of that date). If in The Testament Cocteau portrays himself as a living anachronism, a lonesome classical modernist loitering in space-time in the same buckskin jacket and tie while lost in the spectral light of his memories, here he acknowledges explicitly the irony of his phantom-like state: by the time the viewer sees this image, he, J. C., our saviour Poet, will long be dead.

Shot in Bombay #

Released 1/18/2008

Description: A fast-paced, feature-length documentary which goes beyond the tinselly glamour of Bollywood to expose the industry's rather less alluring underbelly. The Mumbai movie industry has long been rumoured to be associated with crime syndicates. The connection was publicly established when, in July 2007, one of India's superstars, Sanjay Dutt, was convicted of possessing firearms which were linked to India's 9/11 - the day in 1993 when Mumbai suffered 13 terrorist bomb blasts in the zone of two hours. As full of sudden reversals as any thriller, this documentary follows Sanjay Dutt as he makes Shootout In Lokhandwala, his last movie before being sentenced. He plays a real-life Mumbai police officer, AA Khan, who became a local character after a fatal shootout with criminals in which 1,400 rounds of ammunition were fired. The documentary subtly underlines the ironies of this case and has as colorful a cast of its own as any Bollywood movie. (Storyville)

Bayit #

Released 1/30/1980

Description: House is the storyline of a house in West-Jerusalem: abandoned during the 1948 fight by its owner, a Palestinian doctor; requisitioned by the Israeli government as "vacant'; rented to Jewish Algerian immigrants in 1956; bought by a university professor who undertakes its transformation into a patrician villa... The building website is like a theatre in which the former inhabitants, the neighbours, the workers, the builder and the fresh owner all appear. Israeli tv censured the film. "Gitai wants this house to be both a symbol and something very concrete; he wants it to become a hero in a film. He achieves one of the most pretty things a camera can register 'live', as it were; folks who look at the same thing but see various things - and who are moved by that vision. In this crumbling shell of a house, true hallucinations start to take shape. The film's central concept is easy and the movie has simply the force of that idea, no more, no less."

The 'Manhunter' Look: A Conversation with Dante Spinotti Reviews:

The 'Manhunter' Look: A Conversation with Dante Spinotti (2001)*** 1/2 (out of 4) This ten minute interview with cinematographer Dante Spinotti is really going to appeal not only to fanatics of MANHUNTER but also folks interested in becoming a cinematographer. I tell that because Spinotti does a terrific job about going into features on different lighting done in the movie and exactly what he was trying to do with the test of colors. One example is the light blues that are seen in the picture. At just ten mins this sadly isn't long enough to be more ground-breaking or just more interesting but what we do receive is certainly entertaining and highly educational. There's no doubt that Spinotti does a very nice job at expressing himself and the look of the picture.
