Description: Made for "Cinéma, de notre temps" series. Interview with Georges Franju (1912-1987), a figure of immense importance in the history of French cinema, not primarily for his movies (exceptional though many of these are) but for being the co-founder, with Henri Langlois, of the Cinémathèque Française in 1936, France's most popular and necessary movie archive.
Description: Second attempt to make a detail movie out of the 200,000-plus feet of movie which Soviet film-maker Sergei Eisenstein shot during 1931-32 in Mexico for American socialist creator Upton Sinclair, his wife and a tiny company of investors. The projected film, to be named "Que Viva Mexico", was never finished due to exhaustion of funds and Stalin's demand that Eisenstein return to the USSR (he had been absent since 1929). The first attempt at editing the footage, in the USA, resulted in "Thunder Over Mexico", released in 1934. In 1940, Marie Seton, from the UK, acquired some of the footage from the Sinclairs in an attempt to create a better cutting according to Eisenstein's skeletal outline for the proposed film. This movie has apparently been lost.
Description: Made for "Cinéma, de notre temps" series. In a peaceful residence near the Loire River, Chabrol raised his favourite characters : monsters. Excerpts from The Butcher (Le Boucher), Violette Nozière, The Hatter's Ghost (Les Fantômes du chapelier) and Masks (Masques) will punctuate their meaningful and witty conversation.

Made entirely from archive photographs and footage from the earliest days of moving image, All This Can Happen (2012) follows the footsteps of the protagonist from the short storyline 'The Walk' by Robert Walser. Juxtapositions, various speeds and split frame techniques convey the walker's state of mind as he encounters a globe of hilarity, despair and ceaseless variety.

Description: Some people squirm at mention of a woman’s period…not Arunachalam Muruganantham. Considered a madman and pervert by his community, he ignores his detractors and makes his dream—low-cost sanitary pads made by and for rural Indian women—a reality. Using manually operated machines, Muruganantham’s microbusiness model is focused on something more necessary than profits: providing sustainable employment, hygiene and emancipation to girls who would otherwise go without. He’s a boy with a million-dollar idea—except cash has nothing to do with it. His target is to create a livelihood, not to collect wealth; to operate at a human scale, not a multinational one. Menstrual Boy is the inspiring storyline of a character who rises above poverty and a lack of education to become a superstar social entrepreneur in the business of breaking cultural taboos and re-inventing the economic pyramid. Muruganantham is leading a movement, not a company. And it’s spreading.

Description: The continuing demand for high standards is what sets Rouseau's work apart. What makes this movie distinctive is the method Rousseau explicitly returns to the source of his constructive inspiration. So here he is at home reciting «Bérénice» to himself, whilst going about his household chores. It verges on the comical: There are repeated shots of him obstinately trying to turn off a dripping tap, or the jubilant close up of bare feet carried away in performing a dance step or two. Combining art with life in such a way, that nothing is compartmentalised, nothing lost - that is the goal.
