What Goes Up.... #

Released 10/17/2003

Description: Robert Breer’s What Goes Up... continues his “kitchen sink” approach of including as many various kinds of things as possible. Central to his art are a series of tensions. Rather than using animation to produce seamless illusions, his movies reveal cinema’s dual nature as both an illusion of movement and a succession of stills. The ultimate result of his work is ecstatic: by combining different rhythmic patterns, abstract and photographed shapes, and flatness mixed with depth illusions, Breer energizes ordinary eyesight. The entire globe can seem more alive, alive with rhythms and colors and shapes and textures as well, after seeing one of his films. But Breer’s movies also often have a theme of failure, of failed movements and failed aspirations, and the game What Goes Up..., in referencing the idiom “What goes up gotta come down”, refers to his childhood dreams of flying (illustrated here as in many of his movies with airplanes) as well as to the limpness that follows orgasm for males.

Dynamite Child started as a young Englishmen trained in the infamous Snake Pit by Ted Betely and turned an occasion given to him by the Hart Family in Calgary into a phenomenal worldwide wrestling career. Dynamite Child was on the front lines of changing professional wrestling from a large boy carnival act into an exciting action based entertainment industry where lightweight and physically gifted performers were the focal mission of the show. He dazzled an international audience with matches vs Tiger Mask that are still a bench tag today.

Strokkur #

Released 7/7/2011

Description: In the beginning the concept was to create something from nothing, in a neutral and unknown place. Accumulate photos and sounds instead of producing them. The camera, the microphone and the mini-amplifier: softwares that take away and then give back. We defined a rule: the sound shouldn't illustrate the photo and the photo shouldn't absorb the sound. Less than a hundred kilometres from Reykjavik we found Strokkur. For three days we saw and heard the internal dynamics of the crevice: the boiling water that spat out each seven mins and the thermal shock, given the eighteen degrees below zero of the atmosphere.
