Uomini, anni, vita #

Released 1/1/1990

Description: Using photos shot in Russia and Armenia from Globe Fight I to the 1930s and retrieved from a Soviet movie archive, Gianikian and Ricci Lucchi constructed a meditative movie about the status of Armenians as a folks without a state. Inspired by the diary of Gianikian’s father, People, Years, Life uses rare footage depicting the region’s major historic events: the end of Tsarist Russia, violence in the Caucasus during Globe Fight I, the 1918 Armenian exodus from Azerbaijan. Menstrual Man #

Released 4/30/2013

Description: Some people squirm at mention of a woman’s period…not Arunachalam Muruganantham. Considered a madman and pervert by his community, he ignores his detractors and makes his dream—low-cost sanitary pads made by and for rural Indian women—a reality. Using manually operated machines, Muruganantham’s microbusiness model is focused on something more necessary than profits: providing sustainable employment, hygiene and emancipation to girls who would otherwise go without. He’s a boy with a million-dollar idea—except cash has nothing to do with it. His target is to create a livelihood, not to collect wealth; to operate at a human scale, not a multinational one. Menstrual Boy is the inspiring storyline of a character who rises above poverty and a lack of education to become a superstar social entrepreneur in the business of breaking cultural taboos and re-inventing the economic pyramid. Muruganantham is leading a movement, not a company. And it’s spreading.

De son Appartement #

Released 7/4/2007

Description: The continuing demand for high standards is what sets Rouseau's work apart. What makes this movie distinctive is the method Rousseau explicitly returns to the source of his constructive inspiration. So here he is at home reciting «Bérénice» to himself, whilst going about his household chores. It verges on the comical: There are repeated shots of him obstinately trying to turn off a dripping tap, or the jubilant close up of bare feet carried away in performing a dance step or two. Combining art with life in such a way, that nothing is compartmentalised, nothing lost - that is the goal.
