Who above the age of 15 and alive today doesn't know who Robin Williams was? My first contact was the 'Mork and Mindy' TV present that started in 1978 when he was in his late 20s. That was the wide exposure that began his meteoric rise in the entertainment business. Over the years after that some of my favourite Robin Williams roles are in (and I tell "are" because they will exist for much longer than we will):World According to Garp when he was about 30 . Moscow on the Hudson when he was about 32 . Nice Morning, Vietnam when he was about 35 . Dead Poets Society when he was about 37 . Awakenings when he was about 38 . Mrs. Doubtfire when he was about 41 . Nice Will Hunting when he was about 45 . What Dreams May Come when he was about 46 . Bicentennial Boy when he was about 47 . One Hour Image when he was about 50 . He made nice films after that but for me the last 'favorite' film was in 2002 with 'One Hour Photo.' When you look at the tons of roles, and he did all of them well, you realize what a remarkable actor he was.We miss him. The age of 63 is method too young. He apparently suffered depression and we'll never know for sure why he couldn't go on.An perfect documentary on his life, an actor who really cared about the folks around him and made so many visits to fight zones to support bring cheer to the soldiers.
When Robin Williams took his own life in the summer of 2014, it was a shock to the whole world. The only coping mechanism both then and actually is to remember all the nice times and laughs he gave us all. That's what "Robin Williams Remembered" does, done mostly from the prism of his tv experiences as per what one would expect from this "Pioneers of Television" series. This hour-long documentary is split into three primary parts:1. Robin's younger years and early career in the stand-up comedy industry.2. Talking with fellow co-stars from his time on the "Mork & Mindy" TV show.3. HIs roles in film.Since this is only an hour-long piece, it doesn't have the ability to dig too deep into Williams' life, but it does a nice job of covering all the right bases through interviews with Williams himself and of many of his peers in the stand-up, TV, and movie industries. There are so many hilarious memories of Robin that this can only scratch the surface of the potential memories, but it is a nice starting mission for sure.I'm sure that in subsequent years there will be more comprehensive bios done of this wonderful entertainer, but for actually (when even in 2016 his passing seems so painfully fresh) this is a nice starting mission to remember the legacy of Mr. Williams.
How nice it was getting a glimpse into his life and career and the stepping stones of it. How nice that guest starring in Satisfied Days led to his own show! Or that he visited the units to do stand up in Afghanistan so much! Love that they allow him improvise so many of his lines for the genie in Aladdin!I love stories of seeing how careers built over time and this was wonderful. What an nice man. I so want I should have met him.One down side is not much time spent on his films but they had limited time with this and did what they should which I appreciated. I am glad one that made it in was my favorite, Mrs. Doubtfire.
