The camerawork is ascribed to Cecil Hepworth, and it is certainly possible, even though he had another folks working for him at the time. Neither is the happening or the exact release date given, but I think it likely it was shot during the celebration of the coronation of Lord Edward VII.

There's no notification on this 4-minute movie aside from the fact that it was accessible from Charles Urban's Urban Trading Company, one of the most vigorous of British movie production and distribution companies in the era. It's a well-composed and edited piece for 1907. The uniforms of the opposing forces, one in dark uniforms and one in white, under war standards with the Union Jack look good. The field pieces and the medics transporting the wounded are likewise believable, although the compositions, if anything, look too nice for it to have been fight games; likewise, the smoke from the artillery obscures the action.

Northern Ireland's best movie director Brian Desmond Hurst directed the movie and his assistant director was fellow Ulsterman William (Bill) MacQuitty who went on to create the ultimate Titanic movie A Night to Remember. The script was written by Terence Young who went on to direct the early Bond films. All the components were in zone for a fine movie and this short (32 minute) by the Crown Movie Unit remains an necessary part of Ulster and America's cultural history. As the opening credit tells "This movie is dedicated to those members of the US Forces Who are our guests in these islands". The movie shows American troops landing in Northern Ireland and settling into their fresh camps. The comeback of email from 'back home' supports camp moral, however, two brothers obtain none. Their commander realises that the two brothers have not sent any letters back to their parents and gives the order to write a letter home- A Letter From Ulster.
