Description: Like the hit album that inspires its name, Supernatural Live brings journeyman guitarist Carlos Santana back into the mainstream by surrounding him with younger superstars eager to bask in his formidable musical presence. Resuscitating stardom through sheer proximity can translate to forced pairings or superfluous melody making, but credit Santana himself with minimizing such missteps. A fusion artist before the term was coined, the erstwhile Mexican road musician long ago extended his technical reach and broadened his stylistic palette by hungrily assimilating various styles of music. Accordingly, he shifts gears easily, whether soloing behind Dave Matthews, trading lines with legendary saxophonist Wayne Shorter, or spicing up a hip-hop excursion with Lauryn Hill.
Description: This live set, containing twenty of Jonathan Coulton’s most famous songs, was filmed in February 2008 in front of a sold out crowd at the Nice American Melody Hall in San Francisco.. Bringing the ultimate JoCo Live Experience to life, BEST. CONCERT. EVER. details hits such as “Ikea,” (an ode to the Swedish furniture store), “Skullcrusher Mountain” (a angry scientist’s unrequited love song), “Tom Cruise Crazy” (a angry actor’s requited love song), office tale “Code Monkey” and the zombie memo “Re: Your Brains,” finished with audience participation and zombie sing-a-long.
Description: The Arcade Fire’s enigmatic Miroir Noir opens with its most authentic moment: the band faces every another in the middle of an audience and gingerly eases into “Wake Up”. The fanatics bunch awkwardly around them as Victory Butler intones into a ghetto-taped megaphone. Renowned for their sojourns into the crowd, this particular gimmick is usually configured as a populist transgression of the supposed boundary between performer and audience. But this footage shows indie’s high priests seeming uneasy among the faithful, who appear to share the feeling. No species of direct connection is sought. Even in such close quarters, the act of leveling can only be achieved through the conduit of the music.

Description: Beyonce's London fanatics go crazy when the Destiny's Kid beauty, on her first solo international tour, descends to a heavy scene while suspended, upside down, from a wire. After a delicate landing, the star embarks on a set of newest hits immersed in complicated arrangements, including the Arabic sound of "Baby Boy" and "Naughty Girl," the chunky, hypnotic funk of "Hip Hop Star," and Beyonce: Live at Wembley's greatest performance, the strong "Work It Out," in which the diva is at her clearest, jazziest, and most soulful. Not everything works. The bottom falls out of "Gift from Virgo," "Be with You" is forgettable, and Beyonce's scene patter needs polish. But a Destiny's Kid medley accompanied by only a DJ is innovative and fun, "Summertime" proves a breezy dance number, and "Crazy in Love" is bolstered by what sounds like the old Stax horns.
Description: "Water for Life" was a concert given by French electronic musician Jean Michel Jarre on the night of December 16, 2006 amidst the dunes of the Sahara desert at Merzouga, Morocco. The concert was held under the auspice of UNESCO as 2006 had been designated the International Year of Deserts and Desertification by the United Nations General Assembly. The concert was an end of an era in a way, due to the fact that this was the last time Jarre performed live with the simplified keyboards and synths he'd been using from the Aero concerts onwards. After this live event, Jarre began to re-integrate the original synthesizers from the Oxygene era into his recent shows, such as the Oxygene tours and the "In-Doors" arena concerts.

These were soon released as B-sides on the "King of Pain" single release. The setlists contained songs from the two solo albums that had been released by then, Secrets on Parade (2000) and Honeyburst (2003), as well as from the eponymous debut album of Christensen's former band, Dizzy Mizz Lizzy (1994).

Description: If Nirvana's Nevermind heralded alternative's ascendancy into the mainstream, Creed's mega-successful 1997 debut showed just how quickly--and craftily--alt.rock's musical hallmarks should be utterly co-opted by it. Fueled by vocalist Scott Stapp's Weiland-inspired growl, Creed rode the Seattle pop-suffused string of hits included here to become one of the 90's most successful rock acts--if one whose lvl of critical revile nearly matched its multi-million sales. This CD/DVD combo details 13 of the band's signature performances (including all eight of its number one singles), songs that often turn on a Christianity-inspired message that should be as opaque (the anthemic "Higher") as it was overt ("My Own Prison," "What's This Life For"). The accompanying DVD completes the career retrospective, anthologizing nine of the band's videos along with previously unreleased live performances of "Torn," "Higher" and "Weathered." --Jerry McCulley
Description: What can be told about Born To Run that hasn't already been told or written over the years? The album took Springsteen from punk to rock star, from rags to riches, from man to man, educating his crowd in lessons of love, broken dreams and cars. This documentary features the making of the album and covers everything from the pressure that Springsteen was working under to produce a hit album for Columbia Records to working with the band in the studio to achieve the sound he wanted for the album. Finally the "Hype" of Springsteen that threatened to overtake the value of the album and the artist is also discussed. Featuring vintage footage and fresh interviews, it's a marvelous glimpse into the creation of one of the top ten albums of all time. There are also three performances from 1973 recorded in Los Angeles-"Spirit in the Night" "Wild Billy's Circus Story" and "Thundercrack".

Description: KISS fanatics have been largely divided into two camps. On one side you've got the purists who are fanatics of the original line up (Paul, Gene, Ace, and Peter), and may or may not tolerate any of the another line-ups (and if they do tolerate any of the another line-ups, they everytime preface any conversation with, "Of course, the original line-up is the only REAL KISS"). On the another side you've got the fanatics who wish the greatest accessible users to enjoy alongside Paul and Gene. They weren't really satisfied when the Reunion happened back in '96 as the Revenge line-up was incredibly powerful and vibrant musically.
Description: Even as best hits packs go, this is an utter gem. Each song is inspired, in a class of its own, whether the true ver of "I Shot the Sheriff," the hymnlike "No Woman, No Cry," or the sheer joy of "Jamming." Even allowing that Marley never wrote any terrible material, then Legend is still the crème de la crème, the heart and soul of the Jamaican folks packed into one five-inch compact disc. He was unique, and the message of this record, more than any other, is that he died far too soon.
