Description: It is well known that the disposition of the photos drawn by Escher are neither for animation nor for pre-animation; actually, quite the opposite. His photos appear to be the carrying out of metamorphic dissolves. A bird gives method to the recognition of a house, which turns into fish, which turns into birds, and so on. Not a single flapping of wings takes place; everything is reiterated and fixed, becoming immersed in and re-emerging from a static continuum. All of Escher is an homage to one of the major animating forces of the cinema: the cross-dissolve. Precisely there, I found cinematic attitudes: in the house which turns into fish and in everything that transforms into something else. I gradually managed to figure out different types of non-existent sequences and then finally found myself dissolved, crossing over metamorphically. —P.G.

Laika's recent outing, for better or worse, carries with it a certain expectation of quality, thanks to their previously cute much entirely untarnished record. Of course, 'Missing Url (2019)' really shouldn't be judged solely vs its ancestors, as that's simply not fair (even if it's, essentially, inevitable and, even, somewhat understandable). It initially seems like a bit of a departure for the studio, perhaps spurred on by their fresh Annapurna Pictures partnership. However, you later come to realise that it takes a related approach when it comes to its story-telling: family-friendly but fairly uncompromising. There's a nice amount of action here and it all feels suitably tangible. As usual, it comes with consequences, too. These stakes support drive the adventure, which is everytime quite propulsive and pacy. It also takes some unexpected - or, maybe, dangerous - turns and has a decent thematic underpinning. In general, though, it seems to lack a sense of urgency - even though, by all rights, it shouldn't - and the characters are a tad flat. Around halfway through, the lead seems to regress into a slightly more selfish state so that the flick can manufacture some conflict. It feels as though the writers realised that the character required to undergo the arc that he ultimately does but didn't go back through the piece to refine what they'd already written. It doesn't support that the arc itself is quite primary and, almost, expected. It's also strange that the protagonist only changes whenever he's said to by the female lead. The movie is probably trying to imply that he's undergone some internal reflection after their confrontation(s) but, instead, it seems more like he's doing his subsequent nice deeds simply to 'get the girl' and further his own agenda. It's perhaps a tiny thing but it's something that I noticed. On the whole, though, these tiny hero problems don't detract from an undeniably pretty picture. Laika continue to hone their stop-motion craft with every film they produce. The facial animation, especially, looks superb. On top of that, it's consistently entertaining. While it isn't as emotionally engaging as it should have been, it's a solid storyline that will hold you watching until the end. 6/10
That's right, Laika is back with other animated stop-motion film!, I everytime loved Laika With their films, I enjoyed all of them, although Boxtrolls was their weakest one, I still liked it, Coraline was great, Paranorman was hilarious and Kubo and the Two Strings was beautiful, easy their greatest film, so actually with Chris Butler (Co-Director of Paranormal) as director and writer of the recent Laika adventure, it's bound to be nice once again!, so Lionsgate was type enough to release it in the UK before the US, so I got a possibility to see it today and...... they still don't disappoint, okay it's not excellent or their greatest one yet, but it still has a lot to offer, so let's talk about it!.So it's about this popular explorer called Lionel Frost (Hugh Jackman) on a quest to search the special monster know as the Sasquatch, one that can talk and is called Mr. Url (Zach Galifianakis), Mr. Url is tired of living alone and wants to join his cousins up at the Himalayas, so Lionel is promised to take him there so he can have a zone and so he can prove to the another folks that he is worthy of this club, I'll just leave it there, it's cute primary and straightforward, which I'm scared is why the writing is quite low making the film easy predicable, however, thanks the funny and amusing comedy, the writing is more forgiven since it's far more harmless then any another Laika film, which is not a terrible thing, it's create the film somewhat intelligent in it's moral and setting, it also has intelligent jokes along with it, sure it has said it humour and some obvious jokes, but that's type of the charm of it, it's funny in a simple, intelligent and fun way, it shows that Laika wish to create a film that's not quite as dark as the another movies that they made, it's got some nice action that is very well timed and entertaining, the writing maybe low and predicable, but thanks for it's fun comedy, intelligent jokes, heart, moral and nice action, it makes the film more fun for everyone and can package in a lot of elements, into one and it surprisingly works here!.Oh Laika, I missed your stop-motion animaton and I'm so glad to see it back on the large screen and looking nice as always, the animation is one of the greatest things to come out of the movie, it has so much feature in it, of course being a stop-motion film, it has smooth and quick movements, every hero has a Identifiable look and each hero here looks great, from Mr. Url to Lionel Frost and many more, the backgrounds look gorgeous, the action scenes are well made and once again fun to watch and unlike Laika's another films, this one is more bright and colorful then dark and grey, the animation still proves that stop-motion is still a unbelievable piece of animation and Laika is still the greatest at what they do!.The characters are delicious and fun..... for the most part, Lionel Frost is a charming and amusing character, I enjoyed his moments and he is a nice character, however he can act a bit out of hero which would involve being a bit selfish, I know that's type of part of his hero but it didn't support since he's somewhat smug, but he is fun, Mr. Url is sweet, funny, charming and lots of fun, my favorite hero in the film, Adelina Fortnight (Zoe Saldana) is a useful hero and possible love interest for Frost and is also quite funny, as for the others, quite forgettable and to respond your question, yes, there is a villain or two, but they are quite bland and forgettable, although entertaining thanks for the performances, but easy the worst Laika villains so far, the voice acting is fantastic, Hugh Jackman does a nice job of voicing Frost, Zoe Saldana is delicious as Fortnight, Stephen Fry, David Walliams and Matt Lucas are nice as the villains, Emma Thompson sounds like she is having a lot of fun with her role, Zach Galifianakis is the excellent voice for Mr. Link, the characters can be forgettable, but thanks to some unbelievable voice acting and three very likeable main characters, it makes the film more funnier as it goes on.Well, clearly not the greatest one from the studio, but I would tell second greatest with Kubo and the Two Strings still being the greatest one, Missing Url is a cute solid Laika movie and other nice and fun movie from them, it has a interesting idea and fun story, nice humour, well-crafted stop-motion animation and three charming main characters with some unbelievable performances, sure it's predicable and it has a somewhat selfish character and low villains, but they can easy be forgiven since this film is other nice example of nice stop-motion, Laika fanatics will play it and families can have a blast with it, I'm looking forward to what Laika does next, hopefully it was be even more amazing, so with all that said, it's time to pay Nickalodeon a visit with a certain animated movie about a theme park...Missing Url easy gets a 9.8/10.
This is the fifth movie from the movie studio Laika. Their previous movies contain Coraline (2009), ParaNorman (2012), The Boxtrolls (2014) and Kubo and the Two Strings (2016). Laika are an animation studio who test stop-motion animation such as how Aardman Animations test it in the same style for Wallace & Gromit. There are some very popular voices in this fresh film. Hugh Jackman provides the voice for Sir Lionel Frost. Zoe Saldana provides the voice for a hero named Adelina Fortnight, a free-spirited girl who is well able to look after herself. Then it is Zach Galifianakis who plays the innocent Sasquatch, Mr. Link, who wants to travel across the globe with Sir Lionel Frost to search any another monsters related to himself. There are also plenty of another popular voices to be heard, such as Stephen Fry, Emma Thompson, Amrita Acharia, Timothy Olyphant, Matt Lucas and David Walliams.Missing Url is a wonderfully pretty film. It reminds me of a really exciting journey movie which feels like a mix of Indiana Jones, Sherlock Holmes and elements from a Western. Even though those influences are there, the movie manages to do its own thing. It's written so well and the dialogue between the characters is hilarious. The movie also looks amazing. Laika have a certain skill and technique which is ever so constructive for this form of art. The movie is so nice that you forget that you're listening to Hugh Jackman or any of the another actors. You're under a spell watching the movie and the whole spectacle of it all sweeps you away. One of the greatest and most original movies I have ever seen. It doesn't matter what age you are, anybody will play this unbelievable film! 🙂 10/10
