Description: In describing the foundations for SOLAR SIGHT, artist Lawrence Jordan writes, "A question I had in mind was: what's the zone of the human being in the cosmos? More and more we think about what is 'beyond.' Less and less is art concerned. I don't know why. The question seems a bit grandiose but I approached it quite simply. I have never worked with color photography as basic background to cut-out animation before. I was surprised that the effect was so strong (helped by John Davis' very resonant music). It was liberating to release human figures into an apperception of recommended space, along with the primordial enigma of the revolving sphere."

Is the collision one of dissonant colors, shapes, and images? Is warfare inevitable?
Description: Music: Carl Stone. Colourful pen-and-ink drawings, like topological maps of biomorphic objects, grow and evolve from the red star. Once the master photo is formed, this continuously throbbing, pulsating sight is used to ring changes based on years of optical work. Melody and picture work together to make a mood of ecstatic tranquility. The bright colors, pretty music, surprise at the end, etc. create this a nice movie for young children. Awards: Sinking Creek Movie & Video Festival, 1973; Washington National Student Movie Festival, 1974; Brooklyn Independent Filmmakers Exposition, 1974; Vanguard Int'l Tournament of Electronic Melody for Film, 1974; Humboldt Movie Festival, 1974.
