Description: Chronicling two years in the life of “psycho white trash punk band”, The Dirty Works, this startling movie expands the boundaries of traditional rock documentaries in a manner that is not everytime comfortable, but is everytime riveting. The multi-textured film explores few themes, including mental illness, addiction, relationships, family dysfunction, and the struggle for artistic expression in the heart of America’s “Bible Belt.” Centered on frontman Christopher Scum, Rebel Scum is, at its core, the storyline of one man’s continued drive to make art in spite of the barriers imposed by society and his own self-destructive tendencies. Bouncing intermittently between the extremes of comedy and tragedy, the movie reveals a seedy American underworld that is, at once, both fascinating and repulsive.

These connections run cute much all the method through the disc, which adds an interesting slant on how to make a DVD track listing. Louder also details the interviews from the original shows with such wide ranging talents as Fresh Order and Courtney Love. This is a gotta for all those who are in need of a varied rock diet.

Description: A Blutengel-concert is everytime an extraordinary and highly unique affair with its dark atmosphere, the theatrical performance and the energy and spirit that the catchy Gothic-tunes evoke in an audience, resulting in them collectively going crazy over the music. A Blutengel-concert is like an audiovisual experience in cinemascope. It was, thus, rather obvious that a documentation of Blutengels Labyrinth-tour would have to be on DVD. Moments of Our LIVEs not only makes you relive a present from that tour
it also documents the tour feeling in conveying the atmosphere of the territories where the songs were recorded.

Clips doesn't necessarily need large bidgets or so whimsical ideas to grab an audience's attention; sometimes the apparently easy things will provide for you just as much a spectacular mixture of storytelling with music. It's what you do with the simplicity that counts most and better. Here you have Paul Thomas Anderson at the height of his "Boogie Nights" fame directing a melody video that presents his trade-mark camera moves and cinematography known in that film and later amplified in "Magnolia" in the following year. I was brought to this clip once you saw P.T. Anderson's name attached to it - "Save Me" by Aimee Mann was nice so why not giving it a test to this one. "Michael Penn: Try" is a fascinating method to know more about how Anderson uses of the environment surrounding him to make a work worthy of praise and some awe. The idea might seem simple, but the presentation is not. Singer Penn walks around what appears to be the longest hallway ever built, performing the song while extras appear here and there to alter his way, or style and/or to support with his performance, such as in the situation of the hero played by Philip Seymour Hoffman who provides a guitar and microphones to the leading man. And there's even a reference to the classic 'They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" with the exhausted dance marathon competitors. It all feels like it's done in one-take only but there are cuts - you just have to be keen to search them. It's all Anderson's moving style, your head and mind gotta follow the apparent mess going around Penn while he makes method through the crowd going to...where, anyway? I was reminded of "Bitter Sweet Symphony" in parts, though it never reaches the same lvl of geniality. The test of lighting and colors, all distinctive of his work with Robert Elswit made me feel as if watching a fun short movie by Anderson that left me intrigued, excited and what mattered the most was that I was hooked to the song. If it wasn't for the video, it'd never be part of my playlist. Not sure exactly if the lyrics fit the photos that come along, it may work for some, but there's something deeper in there for every one to search it. Thumbs up! 8/10
These 3 mins are the melody video for Michael Penn's song "Try" from almost 20 years ago. This one does not only have a very close connection to the film "Boogie Noghts", but it was now directed by Paul Thomas Anderson back then and also has the late nice Philip Seymour Hoffman in a couple scenes. Another than that, it not particularly memorable. Penn basically walks through a hallway the whole movie and it's more about the another folks than about him really. The song sounds a bit generic as well and it wasn't a catchy tune in my opinions. All in all, this is not a finished failure by any means, but it has mediocrity written all over it from begin to finish. Not recommended.
