Description: This was just pretty in each aspect. The main merit is the phenomenal ballet score by Tchaikovsky,(all three ballets are just timeless, and I never tire of them) and I will tell that I love the storyline by ETA Hoffmann, it is just a magical storyline and excellent for a Christmas tradition. There is also some wonderful choreography, especially seen in the Pax De Deux, and the scenery is dazzling. The dancing was superb; I was most impressed with the ballerina Natalya Arkhipova, a pretty girl of wonderfully flexible technique. Everyone else was perfect as well, the Prince was handsome, the Mouse Lord was scary and Droselmeyer is certainly mysterious enough. All in all, a dazzling and perfectly charming production, with a unbelievable performance from the ballerina, and choreography to die for.

Description: Puccini’s melodrama about a volatile diva, a sadistic police chief, and an idealistic artist has offended and thrilled audiences for more than a century. Critics, for their part, have often had issues with Tosca’s rather grungy topics matter, the directness and intensity of its score, and the crowd-pleasing dramatic occasions it provides for its lead roles. But these same aspects have also made Tosca one of a handful of iconic works that seem to represent opera in the public imagination.
