Kurdistan, la guerre des filles 2016
Description: As the forces of ISIS and Assad tear through villages and society in Syria and Northern Iraq, a group of brave and idealistic girls are taking up arms vs them—and winning inspiring victories. Members of “The Gratis Women’s Party” come from Paris, Turkish Kurdistan, and another parts of the world. Their dream: To make a Democratic Syria, and a society based on gender equality. Guns in hand, these girls are carrying on a movement with roots that run 40 years deep in the Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK) in Turkey. GIRL’S WAR honors the legacy of Sakine Cansiz, co-founder of the PKK who was assassinated in Paris in 2013, and reflects on the sacrifices made by all of the girls in the movement, who have endured jail, rape, war, and persecution in their quest to liberate their lives and sisters from male dominance. With scenes of solidarity, strength, and love amongst these brave girls soldiers, GIRL'S WAR is a surprising storyline of Middle Eastern feminism on the front lines.

Nightfall #

Released 3/24/1971

Description: Shot in his garage-studio, the camera records Ader painstakingly hoisting a huge brick over his head. His figure is harshly lit by two tangles of light bulbs. He suddenly loses control of the brick, crushing one strand of lights. As he again lifts the brick, allowing tension and dread to accrue, the climax seems inevitable—the brick will (and does) fall and terminate the camera’s remaining illumination. Here the movie abruptly ends with the irrevocable logic of consciousness extinguished. This easy cause and result sequence performs a narrative that is startlingly incongruous with its conclusion. The brick is witnessed demolishing the lights, but that seems to be an insufficient explanation for the void of meaning it leaves in the wake of the film’s ending—the blunt finality of another’s death, by implication, creates a related scramble to search language for a disturbing rupture.

Description: This documentary pays tribute to the contributions and importance of the game watering hole in the creation of the psychedelic dancehalls that littered the West during the late '60s and helped open such super groups as The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane and The Quicksilver Messenger Service. The Red Dog Saloon had its genesis in 1964 when a group of free-thinking, LSD-enhanced Northern California students and young people had a party and began thinking about starting up a saloon that would evoke the old West. They decided to build their saloon in Virginia City, Nevada, a once prosperous city that was by then nearly empty. The ambience of the saloon blended Old West sensibilities with modern psychedelia, go-go women and plenty of illegal drugs. The movie is comprised of interviews with surviving founders, current archival footage, and even a performance of some of the musicians who appeared there.

Kurdistan, la guerre des filles Reviews:

This review is for the US titled "Girls' War" released in 2017 which is the same documentary. It covers peoples with Kurdish heritage as they are engaged in conflicts in Turkey, Syria, and Iraq. Specifically how girls are fighting (and in the situation of ISIS being humiliated when they search out they are losing to women) for equality, life & freedom not only vs ISIS, but also the governments of Turkey & Syria. Governments which are trying to restrain the historical Kurd quest for some autonomy and their decades old belief in equality & democracy for all it's peoples as well as others that live alongside them. Beliefs that align closely with French and American ideals.
