While its topics and year of production might recommend a propaganda film, Shangrao has garnered some interesting (if chronologically impossible) comparisons to Bresson from some critics for its intense, haunting minimalism, though its real roots are in the Soviet cinema then widely distributed in China; in particular, the nice cinematographer Zhu Jinming offers a brilliant echo of Dovzhenko's overwhelming landscapes in his photos of China's rugged northern climes.

However, she somehow or another lost the dialogue sheets required for dubbing the movies into English. With the original dialogue a mystery, and not understanding Greek in the first place, the Grand Dame of Sexploitation simply re-invented the whole plot blissfully dubbing it away without any clue as to what was really being said, and then adding some steamy sex scenes with her own anonymous adulterers to liven things up.
