Description: ‘Tangerine Dream is science fiction!’ declares band leader Edgar Froese who died in January, 2015 aged 70. For almost fifty years he and his band ‘Tangerine Dream’ explored sound and its result on our emotions. This movie about one of Germany’s first electronic bands kicks off with the young Berlin musicians who were as inspired by the zone age of the 1960s, with its rocket launchings and visions of the future, as they were by their own heartbeat, on which Froese also based compositions. Aided by the Moog and another synthesisers Froese (and different band members) revolutionised famous music. His explorations took him into the worlds of classical, fresh and movie music. He preferred to visualise moods rather than make clearly structured songs. A blend of amateur footage, interviews with band members, relatives, mates and colleagues such as Jean-Michel Jarre that creates a comprehensive portrait of an artistic pioneer.

This DVD was given to me as a gift, and I received it with mixed feelings. Having been a Korn fanatic for the better part of 13 years, part of me was excited to see one of my oldest favs in action again. But then there's the part of me that remembers how many times I've written them off (re: Issues, Untouchables) and so I was somewhat reluctant. Plus, this is the first DVD performance I've seen from Korn without founding guitarist Brian "Head" Welch, who parted methods with the band recently due to his "finding Jesus". I gotta tell that such news crushed me as a fan, Head was one of my inspirations to begin testing guitar, and at one mission I swore off Korn altogether. But this set won me back, mostly. The setlist is equally balanced between all their releases, for the most part. They rip through the standards, and sprinkle a several fresh songs throughout. They've everytime been a crowd oriented live act, and even after all these years they still dig in like they everytime have. The extras are worth checking out, especially the mid flight concert the band does on a personal jet. All in all, I'd tell it's worth viewing, for Korn fanatics old and fresh alike.
Musically, I've finally seen another cutting edge varieties to unfold recently. I met with Tag Yaskoweak, of MAG-10 Guitars to learn more about this fresh combo bass/guitar in one. There's a vast future for this concept, and this boy is blazing along the cutting edge with his styles and sound. This would be excellent for a user like Fieldy, or others within the rock/metal genre. This detail could be seen as it's a nice capturing of this sound. The melody of today has evolved itself into a recyclable pool of style, that is unfortunate. The projects that have ever really been a real innovation, have everytime pushed the envelope and have a tendency to face rejection more than acceptance within the instant displays publicly. It would be nice to see a trend of trend setting, though that remains an ideal thought, bands like KORN have done a nice job of keeping that hope alive.
