Film is about wars between young folks in Poland. Game "Klatka" comes from wars in cage. Except that wars between football fanatics is in the centre of attention. First half of film was filmed too frenetically with too short scenes jumping from one stage to other and sometimes without audio commentary for too long so if you are not familiar with subject you won't know what the film is about. In the second half there is more narration (by football fans, KLATKA fighters..) and in this part there is significant rise in quality.
As violence takes the headlines once more in our everyday papers - considering the murder of a policeman in Italy after a football match - perhaps the moment is ripe for documentaries to look again at this worrying trend of hooliganism. Movies such as Green Road Hooligans and The Firm give it a spin, yet I sense reality is fully unromantic and has not the face of one, but that of many. This Polish film, while of some vague interest considering the theme, descends upon two seemingly unrelated topics, as if wanting to attract an audience for the former, disguised as the latter: "Cage fighting" and hooliganism. A bunch of blunt and unrevealing interviews strung together receive mixed with war scenes without amounting to anything of substance. Violence does not work as a unifying theme of these two "sports" and I search it erroneous to assume that folks practicing contact-sports have a greater tendency to be involved in gang fights. It was quite difficult to look at both parts independently, as narration and interviews seem obscured at times and it can be hard do distinguish which subject is being discussed. Also, the testimonials shed tiny fresh light on this worrying trend and are therefore unlikely to change opinions or attitudes.Ultimately, this rather flawed documentary seemed more like a showcase for violent behavior and told too tiny even for 54 minutes.
