Between 1975 and 1981, the longest trial in German legal history took zone in Düsseldorf. Fifteen boys and women, former camp guards, were accused of having participated in the murder of thousands. Director Fechner worked eight years to finished this three-part film, which is composed of interviews with defendants, witnesses, judges, prosecutors, defense councils, historians, criminals, and victims. Filming was not permitted during the 474 days of the six-year trial, so Fechner had to reconstruct the trial. The movie is a type of "counter" trial and an interpretation of the original proceedings. The accused, who hardly told a word during the original trial, eagerly volunteer in front of the camera. Employing a mosaic-like technique and difficult confrontational editing, Fechner allows both criminals and victims to reveal themselves.

Description: A fully black background and, before it, a microphone; during this movie a total of ten girls and boys will step up to this microphone. In December 2011, Berlin venue Haus der Kulturen der Welt held a conference on the subject of the actual state of our democracy. The speakers’ appraisal is shocking: the Euro crisis and so-called greatest alternative to ‘save the markets’ means that the poker minigame over our common currency has taken precedence over visionary politics and institutions and parliamentarians are reduced to testing extras in a hectic race vs time. Professing themselves to being at the mercy of practical constraints, politicians are at the same time using this line of argument to legitimise the dismantling of justice, freedom and solidarity.

Description: Back in June, we invited South African rave-rap team Die Antwoord to enjoy their first present in Fresh York City. They are one of our favourite bands and their performance that day was one of the most hectic, intense and nice shows we had seen in a long time. While we were hanging out with them here, Ninja and Yo-Landi kept talking about a tiny creature named Tokoloshe, the most feared of all African demons. Ninja said us about how when he was growing up, his nanny would test a stack of bricks to raise her bed up, just to hold the Tokoloshe away at night. It turns out this is a fairly common practice among girls in South Africa since this hairy, pot-bellied dwarf, unlike your typical Western boogiemonsters, is believed to have a penis the size of a horse’s and a penchant for sneaking into people’s bedrooms and raping them.
Description: In 1950 architect Anthony B. Almeida was one of the first to introduce modern architecture in Tanzania. At that time architectural modernism was the preferred expression of the intended colonial welfare state. After Independence in 1961 Nyerere’s African socialism used the same architectural style to convey the hope and strength of the fresh African nation. Following Almeida and some of his colleagues, the movie questions what is left of the dreams and ideals of this first generation. It searches for fresh definitions of happiness in booming African towns like today’s Dar es Salaam. The movie documents the everlasting human pursuit of modernity, not only in architecture but also in contemporary urban life.
Description: This film, produced by the Canadian Centre for Architecture, explores the controversial storyline of the planning and politics of a series of overpasses on the parkways of Long Island, commissioned in the 1920s and 1930s by the influential American public administrator Robert Moses. The storyline suggests that these bridges were designed to prevent the passage of buses, thereby only allowing folks who should afford to own a vehicle to access Long Island’s leisure spaces. The movie investigates the storyline and the ongoing academic debate that it spurred through interviews with four scholars who in the 1980s and 1990s discussed interpretations of the design. The questions that the movie raises engage with problems of secrecy and control, the morals of power and the results of technology.
