I had a possibility to watch this film and I have to tell that it left me a bitter taste at the end. Being Greek, helped me to feel better the scenes of the film, transmitting the melancholy and the depreciation of the west suburbs of Athens. The movie was depressing but true. The only glitch that I can search is the low dialogs of the actors, but it doesn't stop to receive the message that the writer tries to pass. Takis is sad, Takis rarely speaks, Takis is accepting another people's hate and anger. And what does he gets? Nothing. Nothing but humiliation and inconsideration. They tell that in each family there is a tragedy, but in tragedies there is everytime the solution. Is this the method out? I leave it up to you to judge. Personally I liked the movie and I give it 8 out of 10
For those who play ethnographic films, this one is brilliant. It is strong, violent, beautiful. From the opening stage the viewer realizes he is about to watch a modern ver of pure Greek tragedy. The entire storyline revolves masterfully around the main hero and his desperate efforts to create ends meet. Yet the entire team performs amazingly. Thus told one could acknowledge Oikonomidis' virtuosity to take the greatest out of his actors. The test of powerful language is not blunt. It is instead meaningful and serves very nicely to portray the violent interaction between characters and a claustrophobic ambiance that puts a question right from the beginning: how long can this go on for and how is-it going to end? Not to be missed.
A movie about oppressed people, being that a effect of their psychotic reality, or the nature of daily life, the psychological instability experienced, through a twisted and shallow understanding of problematic solutions. The mission is that all characters are beyond a sample of what might be society's "normal standards". However the truth lays in the fact that being bald to admit – every person in modern social structures manifests some pathological symptoms concerning the functional pathways of an individual mindset. But the ability to control cases is what makes folks to continue and search a meaning on their actions. In several words characters such as those portrayed in the movie are a glance within the sick or unpleasant human we hide - first - from our self. A globe dismantled of dignity which might - as well - be an interesting situation study, but it's not. This project fails to let the audience to become a part of a enjoy that portrays the apoptotic effects of an alienated routine towards survival. What now happens here is that the picture is watched from outside, and from there it's also easy forgotten. What remains in the end is a repetition of meaningless foul language most proper for an alternative soap opera. There is a statement there, surely and a powerful one too, but the most disappointing outcome is that the audience tends to think on the basis of the movie event in the show in front of their eyes thus wrongly identifying the right in an unbearably fuzzy and disturbing mission of view towards one's actions. At least the director and the actors depicted a grim reality – I hope that bleakness becomes symbolic.
