Description: In 1943 Herbert and Lotte Strauss made the courageous decision to escape from Germany and almost certain extermination in a Nazi concentration camp. This is a private acc of their dramatic flight, building a fresh life in the United States, and coming to terms with the Holocaust. "We Were German Jews" grapples with the torment of living with the legacy of the Holocaust. The movie chronicles Herbert and Lotte Strauss' return visit to Germany. They were not trying to assuage any sense of guilt over having survived; they wanted to confront the past by going back to where they had lived before the onslaught that claimed most of their relatives. This understated, very private storyline adds significantly to the body of evidence that explores human behavior in the face of genocide and insists that we remember the past and learn from it.

Description: Everyone knows the storyline of the Titanic, how the biggest moving object ever fashioned by the hand of boy hit an iceberg on its maiden voyage and sank in the middle of the North Atlantic, and 1,500 lives were lost. It is a storyline that has left many questions unanswered, and the programme provides an intriguing hypothesis that the ship that plummeted two miles to the bottom of the sea was not the Titanic but its sister ship the Olympic. This movie is based upon the research of Andrew Newton and contains the evidence of the British and American inquiries, the eye witness reports of survivors, newspapers of the day, photographs, video, movie and radio broadcasts. IMDb seems to have this movie all over the place. It records Brock's Firework Display at Crystal Palace as 1902 (Warwick Trading Company) and has other Warwick game "Fireworks) as 1905, Fireworks Display at Crystal Palace (1904) and this game (both as Urban, 1904) The Brock's Firework display was indeed originally conceived in 1902 for the Coronation of Edward VII and Queen Alexandria and it is possible that this was filmed by Urban, and also that Urban filmed the Brock's displays few times. Brock's had developed in association with Crystal Palace (1851) (it even used "Crystal Palace" as a brand name) and produced regular displays there known as "Brock's Benefits".There is, however, certainly a very sensational movie that survives of the display at Crystal Palace, filmed probably in September 1905 (the 30th September was the last day of the show). The movie is preserved in the collection of the Museo Nazionale del Cinema of Turin, is accessible on Vimeo, beautifully restored (2011), but dated (wrongly I think) 1904.The movie itself remarkable. It is shot at night and in natural colour (presumably a trial outing for the Smith/Urban Kinemacolor system which was patented in 1906 (hence unlikely to have been shot as early as 1904). As with another trial-films using the system, it seems likely that G. A. Smith was himself behind the camera. But the fireworks are remarkable too (I do not why it is no longer possible for such superb displays to be place on. Too expensive?), a display that contains steamboats, a cock fight, a railway train and fine illuminated portraits of the Lord and Queen. It is a movie that really deserves to be much better known.
