Description: A Event in Central Park was performed and taped by video cameras on Saturday, June 17, 1967. The concert, sponsored by Rheingold Beer, and gratis to the public, was held in the Sheep Meadow section of Fresh York City's Central Park. Barbra's tv sponsor, Monsanto, captured the happening on videotape for airing on CBS at a soon date. Barbra took a weekend off from the filming of Funny Woman to perform the concert. On Friday night, June 16th, Barbra and team rehearsed until very late. Many images of Barbra in which she wears a headband were taken the evening of the dress rehearsal. (The cover of Barbra's A Christmas Album is now a image from the Friday night dress rehearsal in Central Park.) On that evening she tried on various gowns and worked with hairdresser Fred Glaser on alternate hairstyles. Director Robert Scheerer also worked out some of his camera blocking at the Friday night rehearsal. He utilized seven color video cameras to capture the concert.

Description: At the heart of "Dreaming in America" is Lucero's storyline about that nice thing, too often overlooked: a blue-collar rock group's struggle to survive. As the melody industry has exploded over the past several decades and the ability to "move units" has become the defining calculus of the business, it's an incredibly emotional experience to see a band who does it because they have to, because their lives depend on it, and because they love it. There are hundreds of such bands criss-crossing the country at any given moment. This is a movie about one of them-a band on the edge of greatness, working to break through. In a satisfied bit of rock kismet, "Dreaming in America's" cameras started rolling just as Lucero was breaking from its indie rock past and considering the treacherous leap to a major label deal unlike anything seen by the industry before. At that point, the band was between labels and, though it had sold north of 20,000 records.
