Description: In a freshwater pond, it's "eat or be eaten." A dragonfly larva eats a midge; a water beetle larva eats a damselfly larva. Snail larvae grow. A beetle larva eats one. Up close, we see the eating apparatus of a damselfly larva—with a retractable hook beneath mandibles. Some monsters bite and chew, others suck. A water beetle larva holds on to its prey, injects a poison that turns the victim's insides to soup, and then sucks it dry. We watch one eat a damselfly larvae and then other water beetle larva. Some have ingenious methods to camouflage themselves, like the water scorpion, and to breathe air while hunting under water. Caddisfly larvae hide in debris, then eat.

By providing the originally silent photos with a meticulously reconstructed soundtrack, the scenes from daily life under siege seem to be set in the present. They do not evoke memories of the past, but become a breathtaking reanimation of reality.
Description: Tearoom consists of footage shot by the police in the course of a crackdown on public sex in the American Midwest. In the summer of 1962, the Mansfield, Ohio Police Department photographed boys in a restroom under the main square of the city. The cameramen hid in a closet and watched the clandestine activities through a two-way mirror. The movie they shot was used in court as evidence vs the defendants, all of whom were found guilty of sodomy, which at that time carried a mandatory minimum sentence of one year in the state penitentiary. The original surveillance footage shot by the police came into the possession of director William E. Jones while he was researching this situation for a documentary project. The unedited scenes of ordinary boys of different races and classes meeting to have sex were so strong that the director decided to show the footage with a minimum of intervention.

Description: The movie starts with a series of horizontally running ocean tide waves, sometimes with mountains in the background, hand-painted patterns, sometimes step-printed hand-painting, abstractions composed of distorted (jammed) TV shapes in shades of blue with occasional red, refractions of light within the camera lens, sometimes mixed with reflections of water. Increasingly closer photos of water, and of light reflected off water, as well as of bursts of fire, intersperse the long shots, the seascapes and all the another interwoven imagery. Eventually a distant volleyball arcs across the sky: this is closely followed by, and interspersed with, silhouettes of a young boy and girl in the sea, which leads to some extremely out-of-focus photos from a front vehicle window, an opening between soft-focus trees, a clearing. Carved wooden teeth suddenly sweep across the frame. Then the movie ends on some soft-focus horizon lines, foregrounded by ocean.
