"Die Akte General" is a German(-language) film from February this year (2016) and it is a tiny screen release that came out a while soon after the theatrical big-screen release that was also about German public prosecutor Frotz Bauer who became popular because of his involvement in the Eichmann arrest and his hunt for former Nazi fight criminals about half a century ago. While Burghart Klaußner plays Bauer in the another film, the main role is portrayed in here by Ulrich Noethen, other fairly successful and popular German actor with an really nice body of work. I would not tell he was as nice as Klaußner, but then again I am definitely a bit biased as I am a large Klaußner fan. But Noethen was solid too. What I can tell from a fairly neutral perspective, however, is my statement on the largest helping users and lets be honest here: Ronald Zehrfeld is miles ahead of David Kross. Then again, I have never been impressed by Kross from what I saw and I am fully confused why folks have tried for so long to create him the next large thing from Germany. He is mediocre or low in everything he stars in, including "The Reader", and never gives a memorable performance. Now back this film here. It runs for 1.5 hours approximately and was directed by Stephan Wagner, one of Germany's finest tiny screen filmmakers these days maybe. The screenplay comes from Alex Buresch and looking at his career in newest years, he is on the rise too. I already vaguely described who Fritz Bauer was, so i will not go much more into feature here. It is a movie that is basically all about the political context and also about the person Bauer himself, even if it is impossible to separate these two really. It's probably cute simple for you to decide if you wanna give this one a chance. If you like politically-centered movies, then I suggest the watch. There may be so many films about Nazi Germany, but there now aren't that many about the years after 1945 (or the 1950s and 1960s) when Germans tried to come to terms with what happened in the previous decades. The topics here is just too interesting for my taste to not suggest the movie and I also think Noethen carried it nicely with his performance. It may not be as showy and spectacular as the large screen release and also not as good, but I trust "Die Akte General" is worth checking out. Thumbs up!
