Dare to Be 2018
Description: Dare to Be is a documentary movie not only on the sport of rowing, but also the human spirit. It follows a series of rowers ranging from novice women to girls training for the Olympics, as they overcome obstacles and seek greatness. We learn along their adventure that greatness can come in many forms and could not everytime be measured by traditional ideas of success, but rather by individual triumphs. It essentially suggests that athletes can define what success looks like to them – not coming in last place, beating a rival, medaling for the first time, qualifying for nationals, or winning an Olympic gold medal.

Pyramid #

Released 10/18/2014

Description: Pyramid is a single screen work on Abraham Maslow's theory on the hierarchy of human needs filmed through the rhythms and choreography of middle class South England. Filmed in color and b&w on 16mm film, it continues Salmon's interest in the performance of the artist/cinematographer within both spontaneous and constructed cases and incorporates ways developed by different movements within documentary and avant-garde history. Using an array of sounds, melody and conversation as well as silence, Salmon constructs an abstract documentary which both develops and challenges the themes presented in Maslow's theory as well as her own interest in human iconography, stereotype and domestic rhythm. The photo of Maslow's pyramid and his pragmatic dissection of human needs and possible motivations deliever a system of organization for the family and a philosophical framework for the video.

Capote claims it is the spontaneity of life that compels him to portray reality, but it is his own new energy and startling sense of humor that hold us intrigued.
