Auteur on the Campus: Jack Arnold at Universal! (2013) *** 1/2 (out of 4)This forty-eight minute documentary takes a look at the career of Jack Arnold at Universal where he directed a tons of movies but most will remember him for his horror films like CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN and MONSTER ON THE CAMPUS. This documentary details clips from his films as well as interviews with historians like Tom Weaver, C. Courtney Joyner, Bill Warren, Bob Burns and Ted Newsom. If you're a fanatic of these Universal creature films then this here is certainly a gotta see. Those being interviewed say a lot of very nice stories about the production of these creature films but also the early portion of Arnold's career as well as the another category films that he made. I'd tell most folks don't even realize that Arnold did a string of films outside the horror category but they are covered nicely here as is his work with Orson Welles. The movie thankfully runs long enough to receive into full feature about all of these movies so that makes this a gotta see.
