Photon #

Released 4/29/2017

Description: Prepare yourself for a sensory overload of epic proportions. Nothing less than the history of the universe, the formation of the stars and planets, the origins of matter, and the daunting post-human future that lies ahead are explored in this mind-bending experience. Photon is an ultra-ambitious summation of human knowledge that combines stunning phantasmagoric visuals and a dense but engaging, even dryly humorous, voiceover in what you might call an experimental science lesson—a ruin course in, well, everything. How did we come to be? How are we as we are? The largest questions are asked, and answered, with inventiveness and aplomb. Photon even delves into the biological foundations of human behaviours such as violence and alcoholism. Dazzling animation visualizes that which we should otherwise not see, ingeniously illustrating features of quantum physics. It’s a powerful dose of eye and brain candy in equal measure.

This Cold Life #

Released 4/27/2017

Description: Welcome to Longyearbyen, the only settlement in the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard. Situated 300 miles from the North Pole, where polar bears outnumber humans, and bearing the distinction of being the northernmost city in the world, Longyearbyen is a community with an unforgiving climate, dreary isolation and an uncertain economic future. Like many tiny towns, Longyearbyen was once a bustling industrial hub that’s actually struggling to search innovative methods to sustain itself. This Cold Life is filmmaker Darren Mann’s visually stunning portrait that illuminates a tight-knit group of colorful and resourceful residents who are dedicated to preserving the land they call home. Through charming individual reflections, including two boys who fought to change a law to establish a brewery and become the town’s only export, we experience what it’s like to live in unity for our neighbours’ well-being.

Carré 35 #

Released 11/1/2017

Description: Plot 35 is a zone that was never mentioned in my family; it is where my elder sister, who died aged three, is buried. The sister about whom I was said nothing, or nearly nothing, and of whom my parents had oddly never kept a single photograph. It was to create up for the missing photos that I decided to create this film. Thinking that I would simply chronicle a forgotten life, in fact I opened up the hidden door to a past that I was unaware of, to the subconscious memory that lies inside every of us and who makes us what we are.

With the rise of technology and the real-time pressures of an online, global economy, humans will have to be very intelligent – and very attentive – not to be left behind by the future. From the perspective of those in charge, human labor is losing its value, and folks are becoming a liability. This documentary reveals the true motivation behind the secretive effort to reduce the population and bring resource test into strict, centralized control. Should it be that the largest threat we face isn't just automation and robots destroying jobs, but the larger sense that humans should become obsolete altogether?
