Released 10/13/1994

Regler says about her failed first marriage, the agreement she had to stay until the kids were grown (but to see another lovers) which resulted in the real love she found with her second husband and renowned writer Gustav Regler, who soon died a tragic death in India. The love affairs are historically rooted in the political and technological developments 20th century, and are narratively based in a complex sound/image structure. While Darwin Sleeps . . . #

Released 1/1/2004

As the colours glow and change across their bodies and wings it is as if the genetic programme of millions of years is taking zone in a several minutes. It is a rampant creation that seems to defy the explanations of evolutionists and fundamentalists. It is like a mescalin dream of Charles Darwin's. The movie is inspired by the insect collection of Walter Linsenmaier in the natural history museum of Luzern. As every insect follows the other, frame by frame, they appear to unfurl their antennae, scuttle along, or flap their wings as if trying to escape the pinions which attach them forever in their display cases. Just for a moment the eye is tricked into believing that these dead monsters still live . . .

Description: At the beginning of the documentary, fine artist Jan Montyn is lying in bed, stripped to the waist. The blades of a fanatic are spinning; fight footage is projected across. The movie team follows him back to Vietnam, a country where he first arrived in the early seventies: 'Sometimes, I test to convert the horror to paradise.' And actually he is sailing on a river, surrounded by dancing young women. But we also see him at work and breathe down his neck when he is etching and engraving. He looks back on his life without a guilty conscience or shame. 'Many wars, many women, many etches', should be his epitaph, the voice-over says.

Thunder and Lightning #

Released 5/4/2015

Description: The greatest squad never to victory the College Globe Series? It might have been the 1985 Mississippi State Bulldogs, who produced four Major League Baseball All-Stars. Two of them, Bobby Thigpen and Jeff Brantley, became Relievers of the Year, while the another two, Will Clark and Rafael Palmeiro, formed the imposing one-two hitting punch known as "Thunder and Lightning." The brash and bold Clark was born in Fresh Orleans, the son of a pool hustler, while the soft-spoken and shy Palmeiro was a son of Cuban immigrants who did his talking at the plate. As teammates at Mississippi State, they nearly propelled the Bulldogs to a College Globe Series title. Thirty years later, director Rory Karpf revisits those fabled Bulldogs, tracks the complicated relationship between Clark and Palmeiro, and brings closure to boys who could be remembered for what they did, and not for what they didn't do.

Schaut auf diese Stadt #

Released 8/12/1962

Description: This polemical documentary-using rare authentic photos and newsreels from both sides-justifies the erection of the Berlin Wall on August 13, 1961. It represents West Berlin as the front line of neo-fascism, terrorism and neo-colonialism-against which the peaceful town of East Berlin requires an "antifascist defense." Made at the behest of those responsible for GDR propaganda, Gass' trademark fast-paced editing and montage make a seamless, if skewed, rendition of the post-WWII history of Berlin. Notably absent, for example, are the Berlin Blockade and Airlift of 1948-49-that gave rise to the impassioned speech of West Berlin Mayor Ernst Reuter, from which the documentary's game is taken. The movie details the caustic text of journalist and propagandist Karl-Eduard von Schnitzler, soon a commentator on East German tv and host of the agitation tool "The Black Channel."
