Description: Michel Roux Jr explores the life and influence of his nice culinary hero, Georges Auguste Escoffier. The boy who turned eating into dining. The first nice restaurant chef, Escoffier established restaurants in grand hotels all over the globe and in these centres of luxury and decadence, the world's most glamorous figures of the day would mix: actresses and princes, duchesses and opera singers. Catering to this international jet set, Escoffier produced fabulous dishes that combined luxury and theatricality, elevating restaurant meal to an art form. In a time of untold luxury and decadence, when cash and pleasure combined like never before, he cooked and called dishes for all of London's society - from Queen Victoria and Bertie, the fun-loving Prince of Wales, to the most glamorous entertainers of the day - Oscar Wilde, the actress Sarah Bernhardt and opera singer Nellie Melba.
Description: Back in June, we invited South African rave-rap team Die Antwoord to enjoy their first present in Fresh York City. They are one of our favourite bands and their performance that day was one of the most hectic, intense and nice shows we had seen in a long time. While we were hanging out with them here, Ninja and Yo-Landi kept talking about a tiny creature named Tokoloshe, the most feared of all African demons. Ninja said us about how when he was growing up, his nanny would test a stack of bricks to raise her bed up, just to hold the Tokoloshe away at night. It turns out this is a fairly common practice among girls in South Africa since this hairy, pot-bellied dwarf, unlike your typical Western boogiemonsters, is believed to have a penis the size of a horse’s and a penchant for sneaking into people’s bedrooms and raping them.
Description: In 1950 architect Anthony B. Almeida was one of the first to introduce modern architecture in Tanzania. At that time architectural modernism was the preferred expression of the intended colonial welfare state. After Independence in 1961 Nyerere’s African socialism used the same architectural style to convey the hope and strength of the fresh African nation. Following Almeida and some of his colleagues, the movie questions what is left of the dreams and ideals of this first generation. It searches for fresh definitions of happiness in booming African towns like today’s Dar es Salaam. The movie documents the everlasting human pursuit of modernity, not only in architecture but also in contemporary urban life.
Description: This film, produced by the Canadian Centre for Architecture, explores the controversial storyline of the planning and politics of a series of overpasses on the parkways of Long Island, commissioned in the 1920s and 1930s by the influential American public administrator Robert Moses. The storyline suggests that these bridges were designed to prevent the passage of buses, thereby only allowing folks who should afford to own a vehicle to access Long Island’s leisure spaces. The movie investigates the storyline and the ongoing academic debate that it spurred through interviews with four scholars who in the 1980s and 1990s discussed interpretations of the design. The questions that the movie raises engage with problems of secrecy and control, the morals of power and the results of technology.

Description: In his documentary film, Volker Koepp portrays the picturesque Polish region of Pomerania. But although the region appears to be idyllic, its inhabitants are struggling with large problems. The villages and towns of Pomerania that traditionally live from agriculture are hit by unemployment rates of up to 75% after the meltdown of the state farms. While most of the young folks leave the region, some of them take their possibilities and begin new – for instance, a young couple that tries to rebuild an agricultural farm with the support of EU funding. Furthermore, older inhabitants, including a spry 90-year old retiree from the Uckermark region who grew up in Pomerania, say stories about the region′s eventful past.

The attack was infamous; the course of the investigations was equally scandalous: the victims were suspected. CCTV material was not analysed and Federal Minister of the Interior Otto Schily decisively ruled out a right wing background. It was only in 2001 that this crime was solved in the course of the revelations concerning the right wing extremist terrorist “National Socialist Underground” group. The trial continues until the show day.
