Charles Spaak's screenplay makes no attempt to launder the four principal characters (Marcel Mouloudji, Raymond Pellegrin, Antoinine Balpetre, Julien Verdeir): never mind the motivations, these are all hardened murderers. Still, the movie condemns the sadistic ritual through which these four boys are brought to the guillotine. In France, the privacy is to never say the condemned boy when the execution will occur--and then to present up without warning and drag the victim kicking and screaming to his doom, without any occasion to create peace with himself or his Maker. By the end of this harrowing film, the audience feels as dehumanized as the four "protagonists." We Are All Murderers was roundly roasted by the French law enforcement establishment, but it won a unique jury prize at the 1952 Cannes Movie Festival.

***SPOILERS*** ***SPOILERS*** Do you like B movies? I just watched Madonna's first movie which was not academy award winning material. It's set in 1979 NYC and this guy who sorta plays her boyfriend is at this coffee store and this weird white guy around age 40 kept bothering him and eventually asks him where he should receive laid. Soon he rapes Madonna, so her b/f and his mates pose as hookers and hustle him into a limmo and then take him to this theatre where they tie him up and slash him apart in a musical number that reminded me of the 'I Eat Cannibals' video. Her b/f returned home to Madonna as she was resting and anointed her face and neck with the rapists blood which he'd brought in a chalice. It is as entertaining as it is absurd. As I was rewinding the tape a comedian on Comedy Central was pointing to a sign that told 'hookers don't like to snuggle.' Of course not. They like to dismember rapists in cheesy Total Coelo-esque outfits. I don't blame them.Had I starred in this movie I wouldn't talk about it either. I had some issues with the tape not testing and could have taken it as an omen.
If you don't mind watching a B-movie from the late 70's, shot on Super 8 film, with an art-student edge and terrible sound, then you might dig it. One of the reasons why you might, particularly if you are a Madonna fan, is the fact that this is practically the only MOVING FOOTAGE (rather than the many still photos)that captured her before she was a star, at that very interesting period when she was twenty in Fresh York, had only been there for a year or two, and at certain periods was nearly starving. This is a very sexual movie, but not in a conventional sense, it is chock full of easy impulse and flirts with the satanic. In short, it's just plain weird. It probably would greatest be described as a several steps up from a homemade film. An interesting piece of TRIVIA is that at the time this film was being made, right before the rape stage in the coffee store restroom, the director did something to test to up the authenticity of Madonna's acting. Director Stephen Lewicki took the actor who played her rapist aside and instructed him to rip her blouse off during the scene---- a feature Madonna had no concept about. If you look closely, there is an undeniably true sense of shock on her face during the scene, and I remember reading in some biography of hers that they used that take, that the director was satisfied with the result. (Madonna wasn't harmed, just a tiny surprised.) Other bit of interesting TRIVIA is that among her on screen "family of lovers" were a several folks she now hung out with at the time, including Angie Smit, a dutch woman who had studied dancing with Madonna before she dropped out, and soon had a brief stint in a band Madonna spent a nice deal of time with, "The Breakfast Club."This film has some parts to it that are hilariously retarted, and are now amusing. I was (and still am) a die-hard Madonna fanatic when I first saw this movie, and even I was a tad disappointed. For all you people who aren't a true large fanatic of hers, I wouldn't suggest it, but on the whole, as I said, it was somewhat amusing. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A MOVIE SHOT ON DECENT FILM, WITH ABOVE AVERAGE ACTING, YOU ARE LOOKING IN THE WRONG PLACE. THIS MOVIE IS INTERESTING AT BEST.
First off Madonna appears VERY briefly in a several scenes ..the rest in an incoherent mess that looks like it was made by a NYC movie student..a student that didnt pass. This is REAL bad..the worst drama i have seen.. avoid at all costs...dont tell you werent warned.. On a scale of one to ten... 0
